Wow, I am jealous! What a vertical! I had a 1999 Las Cases recently and I thought it was amazing.
The way you are describing the 86 makes me want to spend the 500+ on it:)
It might be worth it!!!
Spine vibrates…..great comment!!
I have seen most of your episodes and this might be the best one so far. Awesome!
Looks like a lot of fun…did you try 09 Las Cases?
I agree with the negociant. Las Cases has been very consistent. In a vintage like 09 where the prices are going to go through the roof the super seconds are where to look. The quality will be just as high as the first growths and half the price.
“In a vintage like 09 where the prices are going to go through the roof the super seconds are where to look.”
World monopoly on great wine is slowly disappearing. Through the roof would be a huge mistake right now. My generation as a whole has not been able to enjoy these wines, can’t imagine it getting worse.
disagree. they are going to price this vintage way too high for me to afford. that’s why this site is so great that chris posts on value wines a lot.
Also a big fan of Cos
Alex,
Yes, Cos but in a different style (especially since 2000) and certainly not as consistent as LLC as some of the vintages of the 1990’s just didn’t make the World Series.
Nice, I’m a little confused by Laurent’s tasting note on the 1986, trying to understand in my tasting terminology. Is that similar to a Herb Score and Bob Feller, fastball. Just curious
Scotty,
I actually had to look up in the encyclopedia on H Score & B Feller … sorry, my baseball references just began to bloom in the mid 1960’s and Koufax was just retiring then … I think. Nonetheless, I think now that the imaginery of a Bob Feller or Tom Seaver fastball is on the same wavelength. In any case, that 86, but even some of those other vintages, were just simply spine shattering classic examples of pure joy !
Chris, Great stuff, this is amazing, great report!
Great show Chris….not a bad first day. It could be a lot worse than drinking a vertical of Las Cases.
What do you think of $128 for Las Cases 2008? Laurent, what will be the release retail price for Las Cases 2009?
I think 128 is a really good price.
2008 at 128 $ ? I know it’s a Ben Franklin and change but 1) it’s a very good price and 2) one never fails with a Las Cases !
… and the 2009 release price … ? don’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised at it reaching the 175 – 200 $ range…
I have not seen LAs Cases for 128 a bottle? Where do you find that?
I have seen it for 135. 08 is the way to go, Is the quality if 09 vs 08 really worth $70??
